Royal Museum for Central Africa
From Treekee
The Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) is a Tervuren museum which is mainly about the former Belgian colony Congo. It was first built to show off King Léopold II's Congo Free State for the World Exhibition of 1897. The museum is not without its controversy; it was created during Belgium's colonial past, and still retains much of the feeling of a rather imperialistic view of Africa. That however is interesting in itself, as it is therefore, not just a museum of Africa, but also a museum of how people used to view Africa.
